My package arrived yesterday from staples ( Subaru Ambassador stuff ). I was super excited because I splurged on myself for once and got a Subaru infuser bottle. You know, the kind that has the infuser in the middle where you can put fruits/veggies to infuse flavor into your water. It’s amazing! If you haven’t purchased one; you’re missing out!
I tried the bottle out as soon as I got it out of the box and washed. All I had on hand was lemons and blueberries so I decided to throw those in. I couldn’t really taste the blueberries so I most likely won’t be doing blueberries again but lemon water is amazing.
This morning I woke up and first thing I did was walk into the kitchen and get some fruits out of the fridge. My flavor choice today was strawberry lemon. Yum! This bottle is definitely keeping me more on track to drinking lots of water throughout the day.
I’m really liking the strawberry lemon right now. Tomorrow I might try orange and strawberry! If you have a favorite infuser combo, please comment below and let me know! I’m always open to trying new flavors.
There’s usually a time in your life when you decide enough is enough. When you decide to take control of your life. Get back to living a healthier, better life. This is my year.
I deal with really bad anxiety. It’s so bad that I’ve started to not like being around new people because I think that they are judging me. Then there’s always guys joking around about “thick” or “fat” girls and I just think if they’re saying stuff about someone they don’t know, then what might they be saying about me? I’m not exactly a twig. I’ve noticed that being overweight has really bumped my anxiety levels higher and I want to change that. The old Katie would apply for jobs and not be nervous or get panic attacks. The current Katie starts an application and then doesn’t finish it because she starts to freak out and anxiety takes over. That’s all going to change this year.
Now I know what you’re thinking. “How is she going to make a big change if she’s fallen off the band wagon numerous times in the past?”. Well, this time I have someone holding me accountable. I want to thank Lindsay for being my support group. Together we will discuss workouts and food intake and keep each other on track. Now, I will be starting this off slowly as I don’t want to just jump into eating salmon everyday and starving myself. I’ve already started making big changes. I drink so much water now and have almost completely kicked sodas from my diet. If I have one, it’s usually once a week. I’ve also started eating better. We used to go out for fast food so often at my parents house. Mostly, because we didn’t have a lot of space for our own food in the fridge and I’d get yelled at for using the kitchen at the same time as my mother. So we just opted to eating out more. Now that we have our own place again, we hardly ever go out to eat. It’s not that we’re so broke we can’t afford it, that’s not the case. We just have gotten in a routine of eating at home. I’ve definitely gotten into a routine of making meals every night for when Steven gets home from a long day at work. I really like making baked chicken and roasting veggies – carrots, sweet potatoes, zucchini. Yum!
Lately, I’ve been starting my mornings off with eggs. Usually 2 eggs with a little bit of milk mixed in. Then I accompany it with either roasted sweet potatoes or today, I had banana. This kept me under 300 calories.
Thanks to Lindsay, I have started a new workout which means I don’t have to feel awkward trying to do something outside or at our apartment gym. Here’s the video. You’d think that it doesn’t do a lot but I was sweating up a storm after doing it last night.
I hope to be able to report every so many days on my progress. I still need to pick up a scale so I can see what my current weight is and see what I lose throughout the weeks.

Yesterday as you recall, I made overnight oats. Packed with oats, honey (just a tiny bit), blueberries, banana and almond milk. Today is the day we see how it tastes!
It’s actually pretty good. Once you get over the fact that it’s cold. Haha! I might have to try my next one heated up some. I love that its a little bit thicker than regular instant oatmeal which hopefully means it will keep me full longer. My only other concern was that a few of the blogs I found that did recipes on overnight oats, said to add the berries the next morning. Some said to add it all together and that’s what I did. The blueberries weren’t mushy then I ate them this morning. I will say though, this could use a little more honey for sweetness. But overall, it’s healthy and good for you so who cares!
Today is day 3 of meal planning lunch addition. I have to say that I love being able to just open the fridge, grab a dish, microwave it for a minute or two and then eat it. It’s much nicer than standing at the fridge wondering what I’m going to make and after 10 minutes of debate, deciding to go with frozen meals (burritos and such), all because it’s “easy”. Today my lunch consisted of barbecued chicken with Montreal Chicken Seasoning with a touch of Whataburger spicy ketchup (just for a little added flavor and moisture) and yummy roasted brussel sprouts, seasoned, with a little bit of bacon added. It was delicious! If you know me, then by now you know that I am addicted to brussel sprouts. I personally love, love, LOVE them roasted. Did I say love too many times? Well I do love them roasted. Yes, it stinks up your house (as my mom would say) but they taste so good.
I also want to share a slight victory with you all as I am an avid Mountain Dew drinker. I haven’t had a Mountain Dew all week! My main drink of choice this week has been water with the occasional addition of a powerade and one can of Arizona sweet tea. I’ve been trying to keep myself on drinking more water because it’s better for you (duh) and I want to slowly work soda out of my body. I’m not completely cutting it out, oh no. I will probably have one soda a week. Which this week I did have a Root Beer. But compared to drinking soda everyday, I’d say I’m off to a good start.
I didn’t really discuss my 2016 resolutions with you all in my last blog post, other than mentioning money-saving. Here’s just a few resolutions I want to share with you . . .
To Save Money: Yes, I talked about this in my last post. I want to put aside a little money every week so I can be able to buy a new motor for my car as well as save up for a new lens for my camera.
Healthier Eating: Yes, Instead of saying “diet”, I would just like to start eating healthier. Which means less Taco Bell [cries]. I would like to lose weight but I know it all starts with better eating. Here’s to you broccoli and chicken!
Blog more often: I started this blog as a way to vent, tell you about things going on in my life and share some photography. I really haven’t been blogging much but I’m definitely going to try to bust out a move post hopefully once a week.
Onto meal planning. I started meal planning back in 2014 when I lived in Texas. I loved it because I would do all of my cooking at once and during the week all I would have to do is pull out a plastic container and heat it in the microwave. Now that we live in California with my parents, I just haven’t ever thought about meal planning because someone might eat one of my meals or because it takes up room in the fridge to have so many containers. I know, all excuses. Since December, dad and I have been discussing healthier eating and rebuilding a garden so we can produce our own vegetables instead of constantly having to go to the store to get produce. It got me thinking that I really need to start meal planning again. So that’s what I did tonight. Meal Planning.
I did six meals above but one is for hubby to take to work tomorrow. Had I thought ahead I would have made some for him to take each day to work. Bad wife!
I changed each meal up a little by doing different veggies. One meal was with barbecued mushrooms [yum!], another with steamed broccoli and then the last with roasted brussel sprouts with a little bit of bacon [mmm bacon!].
The chicken was just simply barbecued with Montreal chicken seasoning. It smells really good and it’s better than having some calorie loaded sauce smothering it. By the way, I tried a little piece and it is . . . delicious!!
I think next weeks meals I will incorporate some brown rice and maybe do ground turkey just so I don’t get tired of eating chicken.

Back story . . . I’ve always kind of been one of those people who jumps on the healthy bandwagon and then lasts a week and you know, falls off. End of story. Recently, Import Sweethearts, a group I’m part of, started a secret group called Healthy Living Sweethearts. I joined and figured it would be the best thing for me. To get motivation from other girls who have had trouble keeping motivated and well, girls like me. Thanks to all of those lovely ladies posts everyday, I am going to start my little health journey now and actually try to stick with it this time. I’m hoping to blog about this journey frequently to kind of hold me accountable. I’ve always been the “fat” girl in my family and I want to change that.
Today the husband and I went grocery shopping since it is pay day! Yay! ! ! ! ! I worked more hours at work so I’d be able to go on a decent grocery shopping trip and be able to cover our food intake for a few weeks (I’m hoping at least). Here’s what I got:
I can’t wait to get this journey started off right! Thanks to the lovely ladies on the group, I’m going to start doing meal plans just like them. I plan on doing a few days of ground turkey, brown rice and a veggie and then maybe during the weekends switching it up with a pita pocket type meal with protein. I also have fish, shrimp and chicken too so I don’t plan on getting bored with eating the same thing. Ha ha!
My plan with this healthy eating thing is to start out with portion control and intake healthier items vs unhealthy (of course!). I’m also going to be drinking a lot more water. From there, I will start working in the exercise part of this health journey. I’ve got to take baby steps so I don’t get too overwhelmed because I am still dealing with a lot of stress of trying to find a new job. I don’t want to overwhelm myself and end up falling off this wagon again. Now for the fun part. Each time I post on my blog with an update, I will include my weigh in. Ouchie! It can’t be too bad right? Well it’s not something I’m used to. Ya know, just putting it out there that I weigh this much _______ lbs and that I’m fat.
