Infuse all the things!

My package arrived yesterday from staples ( Subaru Ambassador stuff ). I was super excited because I splurged on myself for once and got a Subaru infuser bottle. You know, the kind that has the infuser in the middle where you can put fruits/veggies to infuse flavor into your water. It’s amazing! If you haven’t purchased one; you’re missing out!

I tried the bottle out as soon as I got it out of the box and washed. All I had on hand was lemons and blueberries so I decided to throw those in. I couldn’t really taste the blueberries so I most likely won’t be doing blueberries again but lemon water is amazing.

This morning I woke up and first thing I did was walk into the kitchen and get some fruits out of the fridge. My flavor choice today was strawberry lemon. Yum! This bottle is definitely keeping me more on track to drinking lots of water throughout the day.

I’m really liking the strawberry lemon right now. Tomorrow I might try orange and strawberry! If you have a favorite infuser combo, please comment below and let me know! I’m always open to trying new flavors.

Fresh Start

Good Morning Everyone!!

6551d8d5b3e0bc5a920314856c72a83c
There’s usually a time in your life when you decide enough is enough. When you decide to take control of your life. Get back to living a healthier, better life. This is my year.

I deal with really bad anxiety. It’s so bad that I’ve started to not like being around new people because I think that they are judging me. Then there’s always guys joking around about “thick” or “fat” girls and I just think if they’re saying stuff about someone they don’t know, then what might they be saying about me? I’m not exactly a twig. I’ve noticed that being overweight has really bumped my anxiety levels higher and I want to change that. The old Katie would apply for jobs and not be nervous or get panic attacks. The current Katie starts an application and then doesn’t finish it because she starts to freak out and anxiety takes over. That’s all going to change this year.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “How is she going to make a big change if she’s fallen off the band wagon numerous times in the past?”. Well, this time I have someone holding me accountable. I want to thank Lindsay for being my support group. Together we will discuss workouts and food intake and keep each other on track. Now, I will be starting this off slowly as I don’t want to just jump into eating salmon everyday and starving myself. I’ve already started making big changes. I drink so much water now and have almost completely kicked sodas from my diet. If I have one, it’s usually once a week. I’ve also started eating better. We used to go out for fast food so often at my parents house. Mostly, because we didn’t have a lot of space for our own food in the fridge and I’d get yelled at for using the kitchen at the same time as my mother. So we just opted to eating out more. Now that we have our own place again, we hardly ever go out to eat. It’s not that we’re so broke we can’t afford it, that’s not the case. We just have gotten in a routine of eating at home. I’ve definitely gotten into a routine of making meals every night for when Steven gets home from a long day at work. I really like making baked chicken and roasting veggies – carrots, sweet potatoes, zucchini. Yum!

Lately, I’ve been starting my mornings off with eggs. Usually 2 eggs with a little bit of milk mixed in. Then I accompany it with either roasted sweet potatoes or today, I had banana. This kept me under 300 calories.

Thanks to Lindsay, I have started a new workout which means I don’t have to feel awkward trying to do something outside or at our apartment gym. Here’s the video. You’d think that it doesn’t do a lot but I was sweating up a storm after doing it last night.

I hope to be able to report every so many days on my progress. I still need to pick up a scale so I can see what my current weight is and see what I lose throughout the weeks.

May you all follow me and support me through this journey. Thank you!

Finally Did IT!

pf

I did it!!!! Well actually, Dad, Steven & I did it!! We signed up for the gym. Here’s to a new year and back to trying to get fit. I’ve tried in the past but now I’ll have people holding me accountable! woot!

Tonight to celebrate, Steven made chicken fajitas. We went to the store earlier and got some peppers and onions and then just added our own seasonings. It was delicious. We haven’t had fajitas since we lived in Texas.

Anyway, I’m beyond excited to start going. Dad & I are going to go a few times a week to get started and then hopefully I’ll start going more after that. Need to get myself used to working out again 🙂

Ignorant

ig·no·rant

/ˈignərənt/
Adjective
  1. Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
  2. Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: “ignorant of astronomy”.

Today I was referred to as “ignorant”. The reasoning behind this was simply because I do not care to use a product that a few other ladies are using. It is simply my own opinion and therefore I am “ignorant”. I did not know that by having my own opinion that I would be “ignorant” or anything of the sort. I thought everyone had the freedom of speech and the right to their own opinions.

The topic was the It Works! Wraps. I simply see them as being a waste of money when it comes down to weight loss. 1. They’re $59+ for 4; which adds up over time and 2. If you want to lose weight, just work out. Yet again, these are my own opinions and if you’re using them, more power to you but I, myself would rather workout hard to lose the weight than to use wraps that don’t leave a permanent effect. I want to be proud of my weight loss and I see using the wraps and sitting around my house as not being something to be proud of. Yet again, to each their own. It might work for other people but I’m different. Not everyone is going to be pro wraps or pro working out. I know for a lot of people it’s hard to work out and to lose the weight but most of them are just really lazy. I know I’m pretty lazy but I also know that I can’t just sit around and do nothing all the time.

Lately, I’ve been really sucking at working out and losing weight. Mainly the reason being that I wake up and head to work and work 10 hour days. By the time I get home it’s 7pm and I have to make dinner, shower and then go to bed to wake up early and start it all over. I know this is just an excuse really but eventually I’ve gotta make more time in my schedule to work out. Tomorrow after work I am going to force myself to go to the apartment gym and use the eliptical or treadmill. I’m really not a fan of running outside and I figure if I’m at least getting on the treadmill that that is something toward progress. Eventually I’ll be able to do better running outside. The only downfall of using the apartment gym is that it’s super tiny and there’s a lack of machines. There are probably 3 elipticals, 2 treadmills and then a few weight machines. Usually when I’d go in there there would be 5+ people using the machines and I’d wait about 30 minutes or so to use one and the people would just hog the machine; so I stopped going.

I think I shall end this post here and bid a farewell. My next post will be a little more uplifting and less drama filled. Ha ha! If you have any pointers on good exercises for beginners please leave a comment. Also if you have some good (but yummy) healthy recipes you’d like to share, please leave a comment. Thanks!!

Big Step

Yesterday I took a big step in my life and started working out again. I’m going to try to keep up with this because I usually last a few days and then start back up with the laziness. Last night I got home from work and the handsome husband of mine made dinner which was a package of birds eye viola with chicken, carrots, broccoli, pasta, a light sauce and some corn. We had that and then waited awhile to let it digest before we started working out.

We did:

  • 20 situps (which was a struggle for me cause I haven’t done situps since High School)
  • 20 Squats
  • Pushups (which I attempted but since I don’t have any upper body strength anymore, I only did about 5).
  • Stretching
  • Running
  • Walking

I was definitely exhaust afterwards but it felt good. I was mad at myself most of the time we were running cause I feel like I’ve just let myself go. It’s depressing at times but I know I need to start doing something now. Plus with a wedding in the future, I want to look my best.

Once we got back I made some smoothies. The first one I made was strawberry banana. I used:

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 1/2 cups of strawberries
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 6oz of Greek yogurt

The second smoothie I made so I wouldn’t have to make one in the morning. It’s called a chunky monkey smoothie and I used:

  • 3 Bananas
  • 1 cup of strawberries (extra flavor)
  • 2 Tbsp Peanut butter (I doubled the recipe so I could have some after my workout)
  • 2 cups of Dark Chocolate Almond Milk

I definitely have to say that the second smoothie was not my favorite. I liked the strawberry banana one but the greek yogurt made it really thick. I’ll have to check out some other recipes to perfect it more. My friend Sonny just told me to mix a bunch of fruits and veggies together and call it a day.

Moving on. Yesterday my eating plan was a little off but today I did much better.

Yesterday:

  • Breakfast: Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts
  • 1 Bottle of Water
  • Snack: 1 Cup of Grapes
  • Lunch: Roast Beef sandwich-mustard-lettuce-half of an avocado-pepperjack cheese
  • Small bag of Funyuns
  • 1 can of Mountain Dew
  • 1 Bottle of Water
  • Snack: 2 Small packs of fruit snacks
  • Dinner: Birds eye Viola Three Cheese Chicken
  • Strawberry Banana Smoothie (after workout)
  • 1 Potato skin (at least it was just one)

Today:

  • Breakfast: Two scrambled eggs on a healthy english muffin sliced in half and chunky monkey smoothie.
  • 1 Bottle of Water
  • Snack: 1 cup of grapes
  • Snack: 1 cup(ish) of Pretzel Crisps
  • Lunch: Roast Beef Sandwich-mustard-pepperjack cheese-lettuce
  • 1 Bottle of Water
  • Dinner: Salad-cucumber-tomatoes-carrots, 1 serving of Sweet Potato fries and some edamame.
  • 1 Bottle of Water
  • 2 Fruit Popsicles (40 calories each!)

I’d say I definitely did better today. Who knew being healthy was so expensive! I spent $60 the other day and I’m almost out of fruit and I ran out of lettuce and avocado. Boo! Luckily Steven’s parents told him about this store called Sprouts. It’s pretty much like an indoor farmer’s market. I’m pretty excited to go check it out! Plus they said that they are pretty reasonable on pricing. I just really want to be able to get some good produce without paying an arm and a leg. But then again, anything good for you is going to cost a lot. That’s why so many people get fast food, it’s super cheap! Which I haven’t had fast food in maybe a full week? I’m slowly…..s…l…o…w…l…y…starting to wean myself off of soda. It’s hard!! I love Mountain Dew. I’m making it a mission to at least get down to drinking one soda a day instead of 3-4 like what I was normally drinking. Hopefully I can just keep with this because I want to look amazing on our wedding day and in my engagement photos. I don’t want to look back and be like “omg who is that cow??? how could I let this happen?”.

So tonight I went out and ran without Steven being here. It’s a little weird to not have someone telling me “ok..we’re going to run from here to here”. I tried to run as long as I could before stopping and walking. I think I ran 3 times and walked about 2 laps around the complex before quitting tonight. My leg muscles were starting to lock up pretty bad and my feet were hurting so I noticed I was walking weird. I’m going to go back at it tomorrow night and if my legs still hurt, maybe do some more walking and ease my way into running more.

I shall say farewell, until tomorrow. Night Everyone!!

On the health food kick!

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of blogs and Facebook posts about eating healthier and losing weight. One blog post in particular got me wanting to get some healthier foods. Her name is Natasha and here’s her blog. Back in 2011 she weighed 177 (I wish I weighed that lol) and now she weighs 122 just from working out and eating better. I’m trying to motivate myself into eating better and trying to lose weight because since I moved to Texas, I have done nothing but slowly gain weight. It’s rather sad actually. The lowest I ever remember being was around 186 pounds and that was when I was in 8th grade.

Hopefully by posting more, I can hold myself accountable and actually succeed in losing weight. I’m starting out slow by cutting out as much soda as possible from my diet. Normally I’d have about 3-4 sodas a day. I’m going to start by just drinking 1 soda a day and start trying to drink as much water as I can. I’m not fully cutting soda out just yet because I don’t want to crash pretty much.

Next step for me is to start working out. I’m either going to start by walking around my complex each day or try running. My husband used to run all the time in the Army so hopefully he’ll be able to get me into running. I know walking/running a short distance isn’t a lot but for someone who hasn’t really worked out in years, it’s big. There might be days when I don’t feel like running and I’ll most likely get out on my road bike and try to do 20 miles. Just something to get me out and active will be good.

One thing I did last night after looking at Natasha’s blog was head to the grocery store and get some fruits and veggies. Here’s what I got:

  • 2 ears of corn
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 bag of salad mix (romaine)
  • 1 small lemon
  • 3 apples
  • 2 bunches of bananas
  • 2 containers of greek yogurt
  • 1 container of strawberries
  • 1 container of blueberries
  • 1 container of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 bag of grapes
  • 1 bag of petite carrots
  • 1 bag of white onions
  • 12 dozen eggs
  • 1 package of healthy english muffins
  • 2 boxes of edamame
  • 1 bag of sweet potato fries
  • 2 bags of steamfresh veggies
  • 1 bag of pretzel crisps

Last night for dinner I ended up baking chicken breasts. I dipped them in egg and then garlic and herb bread crumbs and placed them in a pyrex baking dish and put them in the oven. After a bit of cooking, I squirted half of the lemon juice on them and back in the over they went. While they were cooking I started on my salad. I used half of a bag of romaine lettuce, half of a cucumber, some cherry tomatoes, some petite carrots and then on mine I threw on half of an avocado and a smidge of pepper jack cheese. For another side, I cooked one of the steamfresh bags: Asian Medley. It contains carrots, baby corn, snap peas and broccoli. Once the chicken was fully cooked, I squirted the other half of the lemon on top. Dinner was absolutely amazing. I’m not sure that it was 100% healthy but it’s a lot healthier than going out and eating fast food. So I’d say I did pretty good with dinner.

If I ever get brave enough, I’ll post a progress picture. Until then, I will try to post as much as possible and post what I have eaten for the day. If anyone has any tips please feel free to leave a comment below.
