Saving Money – The Challenge & How to Overcome!

I get asked quite frequently how I manage to save money. It’s simple, I use a few different methods that work for me. Once you start and get in a routine with saving, it becomes second nature.

Here are a few tips that help me save!

1. I use a mason jar and have a bingo savings chart taped to the front. It is a fun way to start saving, without having the feeling that you’re super broke. You basically can either mark off 1 number a week or whenever you want to put a little money aside. Depending on if you’re strapped for cash or can let a little more go to the jar. It’s a great method for saving because you can put $1 away, $5, $50, whatever you can spare for the week. I tend to mark off a number and then hide the jar out of site so I’m not tempted to use the money. I love this method because I love seeing the colorful squares get filled up. Makes me excited to save money!

2. The 2nd thing I do to save money, is use Swagbucks. For me, it’s a great way to earn a little extra money for things like car parts, Christmas gifts and more. That means I don’t have to spend money from our paycheck on fun stuff. If you already make a lot of money and just want to do it as a way to save money, then that’s a great thing too! You can totally earn money on there and put that in the jar and just let it grow.

3. Coupons – Yes, couponing does help me save money. I always check to see what coupons are currently out and if there’s anything out for what I usually buy. The other week there was a great coupon for cereal and a deal at Walgreens. So I ended up getting 5 boxes of cereal for hubby for $0.88 each! Definitely way better than spending $2+ a box.

Those are the basic things I use to help save money. Even if you’re working part time, you to can save money! Even if it means putting $1 aside a week. It’ll add up over time. Honestly though, it does take a LOT of dedication and restraint to save money. You have to be willing to put aside the money and not touch it. But don’t give up! Reach those goals!

Infuse all the things!

My package arrived yesterday from staples ( Subaru Ambassador stuff ). I was super excited because I splurged on myself for once and got a Subaru infuser bottle. You know, the kind that has the infuser in the middle where you can put fruits/veggies to infuse flavor into your water. It’s amazing! If you haven’t purchased one; you’re missing out!

I tried the bottle out as soon as I got it out of the box and washed. All I had on hand was lemons and blueberries so I decided to throw those in. I couldn’t really taste the blueberries so I most likely won’t be doing blueberries again but lemon water is amazing.

This morning I woke up and first thing I did was walk into the kitchen and get some fruits out of the fridge. My flavor choice today was strawberry lemon. Yum! This bottle is definitely keeping me more on track to drinking lots of water throughout the day.

I’m really liking the strawberry lemon right now. Tomorrow I might try orange and strawberry! If you have a favorite infuser combo, please comment below and let me know! I’m always open to trying new flavors.

Gotta Save Dat Money >> 52 Week Challenge

Hi Ya’ll!!

Been quite a long time since I last wrote but I wanted to discuss the new year with everyone. New Year usually means new resolutions and things to change about yourself. At the beginning of this year I started the 52 week challenge. It’s a money savings challenge to help with what else . . . saving money! I was able to make it to April before having an emergency come up and having to withdraw from the jar. This time I’m starting fresh and I plan on making it till the end of the year and hitting that lovely savings total at the end of December.

Not sure what the 52 week challenge is?

It’s simple. You just add $1 each week. Week 1 you put $1 in the jar. Week 2, you put $2 in the jar and so on till the end of December where you will have saved $1,378! If you want to read more on my first time trying this out. You can check out my blog post here.

Now since I have only been doing photography as my income, it’s a little hard for me to put away each week. So, I started the challenge a little early. I figure while I have some extra cash, I might as well start putting it in the jar that way I’m not scrambling between photoshoots to get money for the jar.

Let me know if you’re going to start the challenge too! Also, if you have any money saving tips that work for you, comment below and let me know!

Can’t shut my mouth….

I am probably the most horrible person out there solely for the fact that I can’t keep my damn mouth shut. I see something that upsets me and of course, I open my mouth and end up getting yelled at or make matters worse.

Tonight I just couldn’t hold it in and called out a “friend” who was on IG telling another friend that they’d go out for beers. It just shocked me that he could go out for beers when he owes my husband money. It just astounds me that people don’t think “oh let me pay this person back and just not have a social life right now”. I guess I’m one of those people that would rather stay at home, eating top ramen every day to be able to pay my friend back sooner.

Should I have snapped at him? No. I did it out of defense for my hubby. I tend to get overly upset about something, especially when it has to do with my husband. I can’t stand seeing him get hurt by friend after friend. Or rather, “friend”.

So tonight, I apologized to that person. It was out of line for me to go on IG and start up a post talking crap. I know better than to do that and I let rage get the best of me. This isn’t the person I want to be. It’s time to start changing things. If that means no more facebook and no more IG, then I guess so be it.

I’m done.

Long Night

It’s really my fault for why I’m not in bed right now, seeing as how it’s 11:51 PM here in the beautiful state of California. Every night around this time, I get online and do swagbucks. It’s my way of making a little money since I’m unemployed. I do enjoying doing the activities as well. One year I earned $180 extra and used that to purchase Christmas presents. This year, since I’ve been so busy, I haven’t made as much but I am shooting toward $100 so I can get my car registration taken care of. After that is taken care of, I will most likely save up the points again and pay our storage bill or most likely save up so I can do my inspection in April. Woo Hoo! Not too sure how I’m going to go about doing my out of state inspection but I guess I’ll figure it out in April.

So today … it was a good day for the most part. I got to drive my car!!!!! I haven’t driven my car in almost a month. Hubby put my car back together and I took him to his eye appointment (it was the worse eye place I’ve ever been to). He had an appointment at Stanton Optical over by the mall and the staff there was ridiculous and not only that, we had to wait almost 2 hours past our appointment time for him to be seen and get his eye exam. Come to find out that he’ll still have to wait 3 weeks to get glasses!!!! So that’s 3 weeks longer that I will have to be driving him around. Yay me.

Well this is short..back to swagbucks and laundry I go! Then gotta get up early to run to OSH and to Walmart so I can get Subaru Ladies stickers packed up and ready to go out on Monday.

Night All!!! ❤

California Bound!

I said it! California bound! That basically sums up this post. What more is there to say? haha. The countdown to our moving day is 3 days. We get our moving truck/trailer on the 21st and then we should be packed and on the road by the 23rd. I’m excited, scared, nervous, worried and grateful.

Packing

I started packing about a week ago. I get antsy and want to pack all at once but since we have a roach infestation and moth issue (still) I can’t just pack everything and leave it sitting in the livingroom because roaches will get into the boxes. I did pack 4 storage bins and used tape around the lid to keep the bugs out. However, I’m going to have to un-tape them tomorrow and re-pack them making sure I don’t have bugs in them. Yay me! Not!

I have been able to get some stuff packed up and put in my car just simply to get it away from the bugs and to have some stuff ready to go on the truck when we get it here. I packed our DVDs and some stockpile misc things.

I’m not looking forward to all the cleaning that will have to be done in order to pack. The desk drawers have to come off and everything has to be thoroughly checked for bugs so we don’t bring any nasty creatures with us. It’s going to be the biggest pain in the rear but I’m hoping it doesn’t take us the full 3 days to pack and load the truck. We’re actually going to be getting rid of quite a bit of stuff that we can easily replace later. There are things that my ex’s parents gave me that I just don’t care to keep and therefore, we will not be bringing them with us. Hey! Less stuff to pack and move later.

The Drive

We plan on leaving the 23rd at [not sure of the time] PM. Since Steven has medical issues from his time in the Army, we will not be able to drive for hours upon hours. With that being said, we planned that our trip would take 4 days. That gives us Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday as full driving days. I believe we’ll be there by then but it all depends on how much driving he wants to do each day. Basically what his body will allow us to do. On top of that we will have to keep an eye on his car due to issues it’s been having. Hopefully the drive and whole move goes smoothly.

Progress

Today Steven & I have accomplished quite a bit of cleaning/packing. I packed up two Subaru bags filled with food items from the pantry and put those in the car. I have two smaller Subaru bags left, so I used those to fill papers and folders from the desk. Those are done and ready to be moved into the car. I’m also finishing up 2 loads of laundry and getting my giraffe printed tote filled up with clothes we will use on the trip. I will also reorganize my suit case and put some of our clothes in that as well. The rest of the not-so-important clothes will be going in his old army laundry bag or his actually army duffel. He told me that it should only take us 2 hours to load the truck but I want to go through everything thoroughly so we don’t bring bugs with us. So even if we get the truck loaded, we won’t be leaving till the 23rd because we have other things we need to get finished up.

Well everyone I am back to packing. I’ll keep you all updated on our trip!

xoxo Katie
