Upcycle Desk Chair

Over the weekend I decided to take apart an old desk chair that belonged to my oldest brother. I’ve been wanting different items to use as props for photo sessions and this one was cheap to upcycle. By cheap, I mean it cost me a whopping total of $7 for paint. That’s it!

The chair started out like this. Very run down after about 30+ years of use. The seat is a tweed type fabric and covered in spots as well as cat hair. Ick!

Lucky for me, my dad owns numerous sanders, so my first step after unscrewing the seat was to sand it down and get all of the lacquer (which was a big pain in the butt). I started off with 220 grit sandpaper which was no where near rough enough to cut through all of it. So I kicked it down to 60. Honestly, I was a big nervous about the 60 grit sandpaper but it made it so much easier to get all the lacquer off.

See? Nasty!!! Well I guess it’s not that nasty. Ha Ha

Next, I had dad hook it up with some wood glue since it was not wanting to stay together. Well, since ever! Thing was wanting to fall apart for the longest time.

Painting TIME!!!! I chose a pretty Garnet Satin from Valspar. You can find this paint at your local Lowe’s store. I highly recommend Valspar paint. I had hubby spray it down because I’ve never spray painted anything and I’m way too much of a perfectionist and didn’t want to have drips all over it.

What can I say? I wasn’t born to paint. ha ha!

Step 7 & 8  is basically my dad, hubby & I recovering the seat. I used khaki duck cloth fabric that the hubby had planned on using in his car and then changed his mind. Mom stepped in and had a random piece of foam sitting around so we used that to make the stiff chair comfy. A few (20 or so) staples later and bam! Seat recovered!

Screwed the seat on after the paint fully dried and bam! Done! Isn’t it pretty? I love that it doesn’t look super brand new. It has a nice look to it and I think it will look great in photo sessions.

Oh and check out this awesome throw blanket I got yesterday at Target! It was on clearance for $5.98! Total score! I had wanted a blanket to use for photo sessions that looked great and this caught my eye. I actually saw it on Instagram thanks to a coupon lady I follow. Note* I won’t be using the blanket with the chair since the “reds” don’t match.

What’s something that you’ve repurposed or upcycled? List it below in the comments!!

Doing work!

Good evening ladies + gents,

Today has been a slightly busy day for me. I was finally able to sit down and get my Etsy business cards printed up and ready to pass out. Yay! By the way, I came up with the design & I absolutely, freakin love it! Just saying.

Sadly, I only made a few simply because I had 2 orders that I needed to get ready for mailing and wanted cards to go with them. Also, I kind of am mad at myself for using textured cardstock. I wanted it to feel more like a business card but the texture messes up the print and makes the links hard to read. Hopefully, since it’s says Katie’s Larsenal of Goods at the top, people will realize that the links are all basically the same. Ha Ha!

I am so excited that I got 2 sales yesterday!!! 2!! T W O !!! My lovely friend Samantha purchased 2 of my beautiful, reversible blue/grey/white pillow covers and another lady purchased my baby girl flannel blanket. So today I decided to get them wrapped up, packed up and ready to be mailed. I just need to get another envelope so I can get the blanket finished up.

I tend to go a little over aboard on presentation, don’t ya think? Ha Ha! I love making my products look amazing before they go off to their new home. I also hope that the customer notices how I am with details and tells their friends that they need to buy from me. Tee Hee. I can wish, can’t I?

When I finished dolling these up, I ran into the livingroom and told my mom, “I nailed it!” hahaha.

Got a minute before going to bed? Check out my etsy store HERE

Goodnight everyone!

Long Night

It’s really my fault for why I’m not in bed right now, seeing as how it’s 11:51 PM here in the beautiful state of California. Every night around this time, I get online and do swagbucks. It’s my way of making a little money since I’m unemployed. I do enjoying doing the activities as well. One year I earned $180 extra and used that to purchase Christmas presents. This year, since I’ve been so busy, I haven’t made as much but I am shooting toward $100 so I can get my car registration taken care of. After that is taken care of, I will most likely save up the points again and pay our storage bill or most likely save up so I can do my inspection in April. Woo Hoo! Not too sure how I’m going to go about doing my out of state inspection but I guess I’ll figure it out in April.

So today … it was a good day for the most part. I got to drive my car!!!!! I haven’t driven my car in almost a month. Hubby put my car back together and I took him to his eye appointment (it was the worse eye place I’ve ever been to). He had an appointment at Stanton Optical over by the mall and the staff there was ridiculous and not only that, we had to wait almost 2 hours past our appointment time for him to be seen and get his eye exam. Come to find out that he’ll still have to wait 3 weeks to get glasses!!!! So that’s 3 weeks longer that I will have to be driving him around. Yay me.

Well this is short..back to swagbucks and laundry I go! Then gotta get up early to run to OSH and to Walmart so I can get Subaru Ladies stickers packed up and ready to go out on Monday.

Night All!!! ❤
